How To Add Hatch Patterns to New Geologies in HoleBASE SI

Explanation

If a non-standard Hatch Pattern is used within HoleBASE SI then when this is drawn on a borehole log or a section, then the hatch pattern will return as 'Awaiting Image'. The below process will detail how to draw a new Hatch pattern and add this into HoleBASE SI. The below image and picklist item are not representative of real data.

It is possible to see whether a picklist item has an image by viewing the data in the grid. In the below example, 'Concrete' has an image whereas 'Class 7' does not.

This is then shown on the log as follows;

Process

There are two stages to creating a new hatch pattern for use with HoleBASE SI; the creation of the pattern and then the importing into HoleBASE SI.

Creating the Pattern

Open an application that can create the drawings required, in this example Microsoft Paint will be used.

Create a canvas for the correct size. In this example, 100x40 pixels is used.

Draw or paste the required image into the canvas

Save the image as a PNG file into a convinient location on the machine.

Importing into HoleBASE SI

To import these against a picklist item in a configuration pack, follow the steps below.

Start HoleBASE SI and browse through to System - Configuration Packs.

Select the configuration pack that you wish to edit.

Select Manage Picklists from the Configuration Tools Ribbon.

Select the picklist group and select Edit.

Select the Picklist that you wish to add the image to (Or create a new one) and then select the Edit Image button.

Browse through to the new image and select Open.

Save and close all dialogues.

Result

The grid within HoleBASE SI will then show the correct image;

And the log template will also show the correct image;

Further Information

The following details are important to consider when creating a new hatch pattern.

We recommend that PNG format is used. This is to support transparency and better image quality.

If transparency is important, then ensure any background is stored as transparent and not white.

Hatch patterns in HoleBASE SI are drawn as tiles, this means that when the limit of the hatch pattern is reached, HoleBASE SI will repeat this pattern again. It is therefore important to remember that the hatch pattern is 'repeatable'.

Colours are supported!

As the images are tiled in HoleBASE SI, it is important to draw the image so that it is not bigger than the width of the legend bar on the template or strip, if this is the case then some of the image may be left off of the drawing. The standard size used in the default images are 100x40 pixels.

The standard HoleBASE SI patterns that are shipped with the program can be requested from our support team by raising a service request.
