How to set a backup schedule.

    Explanation

If you find that backups are not taken it might be worth looking at scheduling a daily or weekly backup. The details below to tell you how.

    Process

For this you have two options.

    1. Use the Keynetix Backup Tool and install it on the server, This gives some simple options to setup a backup daily, weekly or monthly. Once setup it will work on its own and take backups as selected. You can find the download for the tool here:

    2. If you have the full version of SQL you can set up a Maintenance Plan to take backups. To do this follow the steps below:

Open SQL Management Studio and login as a high level admin user, or the 'sa' account.

    Go to Management>Maintenance Plans

Right click Maintenance Plans and select 'Maintenance Plan Wizard'

Give the plan a name and select 'Change' next to 'Schedule'

Set the dates and times you want the backups to run, so for example if you want it to run daily, set the options to daily and give it a time.

Save the changes and click 'Next'

Tick the option for 'Backup Database (full)'

    Click 'Next' and 'Next' again.

Select the databases you want to backup from the General tab

Select the save destination from the 'Destination' tab

    Then Select 'Finish'.

The backup will then run at the times you specified.
