How To Create a Duplicate Test Definition

Explanation

Sometimes its necessary to duplicate a test definition for example the standard Atterberg test has both the 4 point and the 1 point as part of it. If you needed to schedule both 1 point and 4 point test you will need to create the 1 point test, the quickest way to do this is to duplicate the test definition.

Process

To start the process, create a complete export of the test you wish to duplicate. There is one file which will be important, this is the .xml file. Open this file in note pad.

In the file you will find all the test definitions along with a lot of information. To be able to duplicate the test definition you will need to change two values in this file.

The two values you will need to change are the Test Name and the Test Code. If you change them in note pad and save the file when you come to import the file KeyLAB will see it as a new test.

In this example you might want to split the test definition for "Atterberg 4 Point" so you can have a "Atterberg 1 Point" as well. You would change the section in the top line after "TestType Name=" which currently has "Atterberg 4 Point", to "1 point". The second part is to change the value in the second line and the very left hand end starting with "TestCode=". Currently this is "ATT4P" we could change it to "ATT1P". When you save this new file you can import it into KeyLAB and now it will be the "Atterberg 1 Point" test with all the test definitions of the "4 point".

From this point you will be able to import the sheets as needed.
