Customer Lateral

Is there a way to confirm that each customer meter element has a lateral connecting it to the main?  I know you can use Loadbuilder to assign to nearest pipe but due to the location of my customer meter elements, I cannot utilize this method.  This will cause the many of customer meters to be assigned to the wrong mains so I have to manually assign them to the correct main.

I want to be able to confirm that all meters have been assigned a main via a lateral connection without clearing out the "associated element" field of all customers.

  • Hello tschrage,

Please see the following wiki article I just created, for options and steps for how to do this:

Finding customer meters not connected via a lateral

  • Jesse,

This is a great solution but I believe only works if there are NO associated elements with the customer meters. Here is what I've done so far:

    1) I used the Loadbuilder to assign customer meters to nearest pipe and create taps and laterals
    2) Realized that many of my customer elements were assigned to the incorrect pipe
    3) Deleted all taps and laterals
    4) Did not clear associated elements from customer meters
    5) Have started to manually assign customer meters to correct pipes manually( have 1000+ done out of ~13,000 total)
    6) Customer Meters without a lateral and tap assigned still have a pipe or junction assigned as an associated element even though they are not connected via a lateral and tap.
  • Hello tschrage,

The method in the article would retrieve customer meters not associated with an element (pipe/node), as well as customer meters that are associated with an element, but not attached for a lateral. So, it should work for you. I tested it with some made-up data with a mix of customer meters not associated with an element, ones that are, and some that have a tap/lateral and some that do not.

  • Thanks, I must have missed a step the first time I performed the process. It appears to work great. Thanks again!
