Computing water level in Manholes due to actual inflow greater than maximum carrying capacity of sewer in SewerGEMS V8i

Hi All,

I have a query regarding SewerGEMS V8i. While designing a gravity network is there a way to compute the rise of water level in manholes when the actual flow is higher than the maximum carrying capacity of the sewer? In my study there is an instantaneous event for which the actual inflow is higher than the maximum carrying capacity of the sewer.

  • Hello Yashodhan,

If the inflow in the system is more than the carrying capacity of the sewer system, then the manholes and the conduits will be shown as overflowing, surcharged resp. in the properties.

You can also plot a profile of the branches, if the HGL is above the ground elevation then you can visualize the overflow there.

Also, you can annotate or color code the manhole property- Is Overflowing or conduits property- is surcharged and the overflowing elements will be highlighted with different assigned colors.

In the conduit properties, you will see what is the flow carrying capacity of the pipe, and what is the actual pipe and how much is the excess flow.
