Catchment Polygon Size

In SewerGEMS/StormCAD and by using model builder to import catchments; the imported catchments shape was green Polygon and all of them has same shape and size (sure different values), the question how can I change the scale of those Catchment Polygon ONLY?

  • I do not think the color coding is what I am asking.

when I import the catchment was done by Excel sheet; so the properities of the catchment shows the correct area but the all of them has the same shape as in the screenshot provided. what I need is how to change the shape and the view size of that shape.

  • As you've noticed, catchments (or any other polygon element type) that are imported from a data source type that does not include geometry, will import as the default pentagon shape.

There is no way to scale up or down the catchment shapes, but you can manually change the shape by manipulating the vertices or using right click >add/remove bend. Some other options to consider:

    1) Uncheck the catchment layer in element symbology to make them disappear from view (they will still be included in the calculations but won't clutter up your plan view)

    2) import catchments from a data source type that does include the geometry such as from a GIS source (ex: shapefiles).

    3) (StormCAD) import the contributing areas directly into the catchbasins instead of importing catchments. (External CA and External Tc fields)

  • Thank you Jesse for the feedback. I expected this answer and hope that could be covered in future updates, also I suggest other improvement for the tool as divide catchments " for example if I import the cad/Shape file catchment and during the modeling is needed to split catchments into few catchments to draw poly-line to split it; I know I could play with the vertices but some catchments has a lot of them and some times I delete the areas and draw again".

I do not know in future if the StormCAD would have the tool to convert manholes into catchbasins? specially if the model has hundreds of them..!

    Thanks.
  • I've filed Enhancement #186866 for the ability to split catchments, though this is something you may be able to do in another platform such as SewerGEMS for ArcGIS.

Regarding converting manholes into catchbasins; this is scheduled to be added to the next versions of our storm and sewer products.
