Bently PondPack V8i Problem - Adding engineering library from ProjectWise

I'm attempting to set up my project to work out of ProjectWise. I have my model set up and working fine, but I cannot get the engineering library containing my rainfall curve to load. When I attempt to add my library to my model using the "ProjectWise add existing library..." option, I get an error stating " The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."

To make sure my .xml file was ok, I copied it to my desktop. Then I went into my model (Still using ProjectWise) and I was able to successfully load the library.

If you need a better explanation, please let me know.

Thanks,

TimZ

  • Hello TimZ,

I did a quick test with a sample model and it seemed to work okay for me. The first thing I would do is make sure you have the latest version of PondPack, just to make sure you are completely up to date. If so, I may need to see the XML file to test this. There are two options for sharing your model files on Communities. If you would like the files to be visible to other members, compress the files into a zip file and upload them as an attachment using the ‘Advanced Reply editor’ before posting. If your data is confidential, you can follow the instructions in the link below to send it to us via Bentley Sharefile. Files uploaded to Sharefile can only be viewed by Bentley.

Please post here with the name of the file so we know it is available.

If you don't want to send the file, the alternative would be to simply add the file from your desktop or some local drive. Once you have added it to the Engineering Library, it will be available for future projects on your computer.

  • Chester County Rainfall Curve.zip

Attached is the Zip. The .xml is called Chester County Rainfall Curve.

As far as I know, my PondPack is up to date. It was patched on April 20th to update it to PondPack 08.11.01.56.

One more question. Are there any tutorials on how to setup a PondPack model using ProjectWise?

  • Hello,

Thank you for the information. I was able to import the data into a model from ProjectWise, both existing storm and the XML file that you provided.

Once the data was in ProjectWise, I added to the Engineering Libraries from within PondPack's Storm Event dialog. I selected Engineering Libraries > Import from Library. Only the Storm Event Groups option is available. I then selected New > ProjectWise Add Existing Library. I browsed to the file in ProjectWise and selected it. It was then available in Storm Event Groups, and could be added to the engineering library.

You may want to try exporting one of the storms from a sample model, such as Bobcat.ppc. There is a storm there that can be saved into a test XML library file and moved to ProjectWise. You can then create a new model and try to import the storm from the Bobcat model (you won't need to create any elements or scenarios/alternatives for this test; just a fresh model with no storm data will be sufficient).

If the issue still occurs, let me know what version of ProjectWise you have. Perhaps the issue is related to this or to your connection to ProjectWise.

    Scott
  • I attempted your steps, but unfortunately I still get the same problem.

I am using ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 4) Version 08.11.11.590 - Commercial Release
  • Hello,

Instead of copying and pasting, try dragging and dropping the file from your local drive to ProjectWise. Also, did you try the creating a new library from the storm event in a sample model as well?

    Thanks,
    Scott
  • I tried both of those option, but I still receive the same error.
  • Do you know if you have PondPack and ProjectWise installed on another machine as well? If so, you could test the workflow there too, as this may be a machine-specific issue.

If that doesn't help, we may need to do a screensharing session. If you could create a service request through Bentley's website, we can get started on that. You can create a service request at the following link: appsnet.bentley.com/.../index.aspx
