Setting up Pre-development and Post-development Flows in PondPack

Good afternoon,

I am trying to set up a network in PondPack where all pre-development basins are all being collected at one outfall/culvert but in the post-development, three of the basins are being routed through a pond and then to the culvert.

The problem I am having is that the pre-development flows are being calculated and generating a target peak flow, but the post-development flows are only calculating the basins routing to the pond and continuing to give me an error stating that the calculated peak flow is less than the target peak flow and thus no pond is needed.

Is there a way for me to set up the network so that the target and calculated flows are being calculated from the difference of the total flow to the culvert in the pre and the post, rather than the entirety of the pre-developement vs the post-development basins to the pond?

Thanks.

  • Hi Eric,

I understand you also called in and talked to one of our representatives about this question. To close the loop, I created the below Support Solution article that explains how to adjust PondMaker to account for "undetained" (AKA "bypass") flow in a pond design.

In short, PondMaker compares the target peak flow to the pond outflow peak to design the pond. So, when some of the predevelopment flow bypasses the pond, you need to adjust the target peak flow. A quick approximation is to subtract the peak of the undetained area, but the timing of the peaks of the hydrograph can make this tricky, so a few iterations may be necessary. Let us know if the article helps.

Accounting for bypassed (undetained) flow in PondMaker
