SewerGEMS export to SWMM

Hi

In my sewergems model I have nodes with more than one loading, some are fixed loads and the others has patterns.

When I expoert to SWMM , itn only adds the fixed loads and not the pattern loads. I would think that it would add all the loads over a 24 hour period regardless of the patterns.

Can someone please advise

Regards

  • Hello Rossouw,

The pattern load will be exported in one of two way, depending on how the pattern is set up. If the pattern is a 24 hour pattern in 1 hour increments, the pattern itself will be exported to the node in SWMM V5.

However, if the pattern is not in hourly increments, the data will be exported as a time series. Either way the data should be there. We did some testing in a few sample models and the above information appears to work with both cases.

The following link has details on how this works and where to view the data in SWMM V5: communities.bentley.com/.../26680.pattern-loads-in-sewergems-are-not-being-exported-after-exporting-to-swmm-how-are-pattern-loads-at-nodes-in-sewergems-exported-to-swmm-v5

Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Hi Scott

Just a further question on this topic. When I have pattern loads and fixed loads at a node, it exports it to SWMM's "Direct" inflows (Pattern loads as a baseline with pattern and Fixed flows as a Time series) , but when I only have a fixed load, it exports it to the "Dry weather" flow. Why does it not export the fixed load to the Direct flows as a Time series flow in this case?
  • Hello Rossouw,

I just tested this in a sample model. In the sample, I had a sanitary loading based on a pattern and a fixed wet weather inflow. In that case, the export is combining the loads into a single load. There is a time series that includes the fixed load from the wet weather loading and the pattern flow for the sanitary loading.

If the pattern loading was not present and there was only the fixed wet weather inflow, the flow in SWMM V5 would appear as a baseline flow under the Direct tab for the inflows at the element.

If you are seeing something different, I will need more information for how your loading appears in SewerGEMS. It is possible that I am looking at a different loading setup. A screenshot of the loading and any patterns you are using would be useful.

  • Hi Scott

See example below (MH- MH-CSE-08-184 vs MH-1242 ) of the same model.

    MH-CSE-08-184
0.0138+0.0173 =0.031 Here SewerGEMS adds the fixed loads and puts it into the Dry weather flow of SWMM

    MH-1242

Here SewerGEMS exports the fixed load as a time series. This is inconsistent. I would prefer it for Sewergemes to only export it as a timeseries (this option) as all the loads would then be in the “Direct” inflows.

Can you please advise give more clarity as to why this happens so I can export it only as “Direct flows”

  • Hello Rossouw,

I spoke with the developers about this. This is working as designed. There are many different possible combinations that the export could work. The current way you are seeing it is the current way the export is handled. When there are one or more fixed pattern loads for a node, the export will pass the loading as to the Dry Weather tab in SWMM V5 as a baseline flow.

However, if there are multiple loads were one follows an hourly pattern and the other is fixed, it will import everything to the Direct tab in the manner you are seeing. This method is the most straightforward method to export the data while avoiding possible issues in the conversion.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards,
    Scott
