Clash Detection with Existing

I have Storm Water designed by StormCAD and we need to perform clash detection with existing sewerage network (main lines and house connections), the sewerage network is only cad file, how we can do that by Navigator or SUDA ? I did search but I found that the two network should be created by SewerCAD and StormCAD; the case here is deferent..!! Also the articles shared is general without more detailing and Examples??!!

This is treated well in MicroDrainage Program and hope to be here as well.

Thank you,

  • Mohamad,

I assume you're referring to this article:

Performing clash detection of storm sewer and water hydraulic models

For option 1 (Navigator via i-model), you could import the CAD file (save to DXF format first) into StormCAD using Modelbuilder, assign elevations if needed, then export to i-model.

For option 2 (SUE via shapefiles), you could first convert both the StormCAD model to Shapefile via Flextables and the CAD file to Shapefile using a conversion tool. This could be done either by importing into StormCAD first with modelbuilder and then exporting to shapefiles in the flextables, or through an external conversion such as ArcMap (screenshot below). Then the shapefiles can be used in SUE for clash detection per the above article. At the bottom of the article you will find a link with more details.

  • Jesse,

The Storm Water Network done by Storm CAD, the sewerage system is existing and only we have it in CAD only, the model builder does not take the cad with manholes depth and text (levels), I do not get your point exactly ?

I can upload the model and the cad file if you send me the secure link.

    Regards.
  • Mohamad,

If you have a DXF file representing your sewer network, you'll need to convert it into a format that contains the attributes you want to use as the basis for the clash detection (elevations). One possible option to consider is converting the DXF to shapefile per my previous reply.
