StormCAD Series 2 -Series 3 help

Georgia DOT's allowable/accepted version of StormCAD is Select Series 2 version (StormCAD V8i - Version 08.11.02.75).  I somehow got a Series 3 version and worked on a project off and on for several months before finding the issue.  Not realizing there was a backward compatibility issue, we made a backup of the model files and our IT staff re-installed the "proper" Series 2 version on my machine.  Now we appear unable to use any of the work I did in S3.  Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Is there someone at Bentley we can send the files to have the model, or at least big portion of it, rolled back to Series 2?  Obviously, I don't want to re-create the entire thing from scratch so I would appreciate any help you all can offer.

Thanks, Michael

  • Hello Michael,

The following link has some information on this: communities.bentley.com/.../10184.can-a-model-be-saved-down-or-back-to-an-older-version.

There are a couple of workarounds that you can try. Exporting the StormCAD model to the LandXML format and then reimporting it into StormCAD V8i SELECTseries 2 would be one option. Another would be to export the element flextables to shapefiles.

The simplest solution would, of course, be to upgrade, though I understand that may not be possible. I will also note that StormCAD V8i SELECTseries 2 and SELECTseries 3 are both pretty old versions of the product.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,
    Scott

  • Thanks for the reply Scott. The LandXML route was at least able to get the scaled catchment areas back, along with the basic system layouts. Detailed information like time of concentration, catalog inlet type, etc. seemed to get lost - all the structures came in as Full Capture inlets. That said, it was certainly better than starting from scratch.

Right- as for upgrading to current versions of software, we are pretty well handcuffed to the requirements and upgrade timetable of our client. Especially since there is no backward compatibility that would allow us to work in current versions but save back for submittals to clients or sub-consultants that are not on the newest release.
