I'm currently working a 12km long pressure pipeline where i would like to insert pressure junctions at regular intervals (every 50m) to enable ground level to be referenced along the pipeline.
Is they a tool avaliable to automatically insert these juctions along the pipeline at the specified interval? I'm trying to avoid inserting these manually.
I don't think that there is a good answer for this one, at least not in our stand alone products which is what I assume you are using.
One thing I thought of that could potentially work, is identify relative straight sections of the pipeline and at each end point of a somewhat straight section, record the X,Y coords. So the start and stop coords. Then in Excel use the line equation of the line to generate additional x/y values at a regular interval. From there use ModelBuilder to bring those X/Y values in as new junctions, and finally, use the Batch Pipe Split tool (which will split pipes with nodes within a user defined tolerance) to split the pipe with those new junctions.
My guess is that this might only be a practical option if your pipeline is relatively straight or has long straight sections and if you don't mind some irregularity in the distance between junctions.
If you have access to MicroStation, AutoCAD or ArcGIS, another option may be to use any available tools (if such tools exist) to create the points at regular intervals. Then, save that layer of points as a file such a DGN or DXF, and use ModelBuilder in your Haestad product to import the points as junctions. Lastly, as Wayne mentions, use the Batch Pipe Split.
I noticed you mentioned you want to do this so that ground level can be referenced along the pipeline. If you are using a recent version of SewerGEMS, CivilStorm, StormCAD or SewerCAD (10.00.00.40 and greater), you can use the Terrain Model feature to overlay a DTM/DEM/TIN of your ground elevation contours along with your model, to visualize contours in the plan view. There is also an option in profiles to display the interpolated ground profile.

I'm currently running the lastest version of SewerCAD but I haven't used the Terrain Model before. You mention that if i'm able to overlay the ground elevations i will be able to see these in the plan view. Will these also be visable in a profile?
I do have a copy of AutoCAD but don't see an option to save as a DTM/DEM/TIN file format. Are these MicroStation formats?
DTM/DEM/TIN are the survey file formats, not the Microstation formats. Using these files you can create the terrain model as mentioned by Jesse. After using the terrain model, the elevations will be applied automatically to the elements, which also will be visible in profiles.

I'm not familair with these formats. Which software package uses/produces these formats? Can they be produced from Bentley Open Utilities Designer?
