StormCAD V8 Lock up when calculating

Question

I'm modelling a storm sewer system in Select Series 5 which is built from a Land XML file exported from a Civil 3D 2015 pipe network. When I try to run the model and the calculate window appears, the software locks up on "Loading Input". I gave it just over an hour while I worked on other things but with no progress had to force close the model. I suspected it had something to do with pipe size vs. what was in my library. I did not have 5'x4' concrete box in my catalog (which was in the model). I left the conduit on User Defined but with the size added into the catalog and got the same lock-up result. I then changed the conduit to Catalog Conduit and got the same lock up result. Lastly, I built the exact same model but manually (i.e. without importing XML - I typed in X/Y coordinates on structures). This model runs beautifully. The problem is I have a quite a few of these to do and starting from an XML import would save a lot of time. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any tips or items to check to have the XML import work correctly? I've done it before but have not run into this issue, which is why I suspected something with the catalog. 
 As a side question, does it matter whether or not a conduit is in the catalog if set to User Defined in the model?

I was able to get the model which locks up to run by changing the Structure Loss Mode in Calculation Options to Hydraulic Grade. If you're experiencing a similar issue and using Energy Grade for your Structure Loss Mode give this a try. 
 Bentley confirmed the model runs fine with no changes in the latest version of StormCAD (10.00.00.45).

If you are able to upgrade to the most recent version of the software 10.00.00.45 that would be a good option too. That is 3 versions newer than the version of the software that you're currently working with.

Hello Louis, 
 The issue may not necessarily be with the XML file, but rather something with the way that the model is set up (which could be a result of how it was configured in Civil 3D). We have seen this hang on compute a few times before and it can happen for a variety of reasons. Some of them have been fixed along the way, so upgrading as Mark said, is certainly recommended. You will also pick up on many other great features and enhancements by doing so. Here is a related article on the hang, which may help you identify if there is something in your model causing it:

 You can try setting "Use Explicit Depth and Slope Equations" to "True", if your model uses circular pipes.

 Hydraulically there would be no difference, if using the same size, shape and roughness. The benefit of using the conduit catalog is that you can establish standard pipe sizes and reuse them in other models, to provide a pick-list instead of accepting manual data entry for sizes for example. 
 Also, if you plan to use the automated design feature, you will need to establish the conduit catalog and use the check boxes to designate which sizes automated design can select from.
