WaterGEMs 08.11.06.113 version not printing

We are using WaterGEMS version 08.11.06.113

Recently every time we try to print preview, everything slows down and it used to take 5-10 mins to get the preview and set different setting for printer type, margin, etc.

Now, it slows down and a message saying, 'Generating Report (Not Responding)', comes out and freezes.

We need to print the fire flow contour maps and pressure contour maps to show our client; however, we cannot do so.

Please help us solve this issue.

Yoko

  • Hello Yoko,

I have a few questions to help troubleshoot this issue:

    1) Just to make sure I understand, are you referring to printing of the drawing pane, view File > Print/Printpreview? A quick workaround you can use to produce the contour map for the client while we work through this issue, is to take a screenshot and print that (or paste into a document and print the document)

    2) You mentioned it used to take 5-10 minutes - was that for each and every function within the print related dialogs, or the initial wait time after first choosing the print option? What changed since then? (you mentioned it is now freezing/hanging) Is it possible that a prompt is appearing off the viewable area of your screen?

    3) How long have you waited for the print preview to appear? Has the watergems.exe process in Task Manager taken up significant CPU percentage while the report is generating? (right click on a blank area of your task bar, choose Task Manager, click the Details/Processes tab).

    4) Is this only happening for one model or for any model? (try opening one of the sample files under the Samples folder within the product installation folder)

    5) If this is model-specific, does the problem occur when you uncheck the pressure contour?

    6) If it only occurs with contours enabled, what are the specific settings for your contour? (what specific field are you contouring and what are the other values entered in the Contours dialog - please include a screenshot if possible)

    7) Have you tried changing your default printer to something else (via Page Setup) such as a generic PDF driver, for troubleshooting purposes? If the problem is printer-specific, you may want to try updating the printer drivers.

    8) Is the size of the .WTG or .WTG.DWH file excessively large? These files will be located in the folder where the model is saved to.

If the .DWH file is very large, try deleting it, then reopen the model and try again. If the .WTG file is very large, try opening the model by selecting "database files" in the "files of type" dropdown in the file open dialog and select the .WTG.SQLITE file associated with the model. All presentation settings will not be shown - try setting up the contour again and see if this helps. If so, re-save the model to a new file name (to preserve the old model with the other presentation settings), check the file size in the .WTG and .DWH, then close and reopen the model and make sure printing still works.

    9) Can you provide a copy of the model files so we can reproduce on our end and investigate? Please be sure to include exact steps to reproduce. See:

As a side note - I noticed you're on a slightly older version - although it may not be related to the issue, I would recommend upgrading to the CONNECT Edition if possible. You can read about all the great new features and enhancements here: What's new with WaterGEMS and WaterCAD CONNECT Edition

  • Jesse,

Thank you so much for providing thorough list of questions. I wrote down my answers until 4) and stopped because now the models can be plotted within a second.  I don't know the reason why, but it does not seem to be related to the functioning of the model itself...

In the end, you really helped. Since it has not been working for a week, I would have given up, otherwise.

    Thanks again!

    Yoko

    1) Yes. I didn't think the quality was good when we did screenshot, but yes, it's a good option - we'll try.

    2) the first dialog comes up and it's there on the screen, but there is no progress.

    3) Print preview no longer comes up

    4) To answer your questions, I tried to plot the one I tried yesterday and another old model from a different city - they both worked...

  • Hi Yoko, I'm glad to hear that it is working for you now. Though, it is certainly strange that it would start to work without any other change. If the issue occurs again, please provide the additional details for the items I mentioned and we'd be happy to help.
