SewerGEM - How do i stop a pump from operating if the receiving pond reaches a level in the model.

Hi,

Please see attached a SewerGEM model for your reference.

I would like the model to stop all the pumps at RW1 and RW2 from pumping when the water level at the Reticulation pond reaches an elevation of 5.8m.

I have been looking into the SCADA element, but bear with me as i cannot figure it out.

thank you

Regards,

Boon

Could anyone do me an example on the attached model?Rev 13.zip

  • Hello Boon,

Pump controls in the Implicit and Explicit solvers are limited to the elevation of of the wet well. More complex controls are available with the GVF-Convex (SewerCAD) solver, though this would likely not be well-suited for what you are currently modeling.

  • Hello Boon,

One of my colleagues made a suggestion that might work. You may be able to use SWMM Controls Sets to set up a control. You can find information on SWMM Control Sets at the following link: Using SWMM Control Sets in SewerGEMS and CivilStorm.

Ponds are not one of the items you can use in a SWMM Control Set, but if you can find base the pump status on a node depth or hydraulic grade, this might be a suitable workaround.

  • THanks Scott,

I have created a control set as per the example. however there issn't an option in the pump attritbute table to select for the control set *Unlike the Conduit control window).

do you have a clear example that would help me to assign the pump to the set-up control set?

    Regarfds,

    Boona

  • Hello Boon,

The SWMM Control Sets are not created in the pump properties, like the simple controls based on wet-well elevation. The link I provided earlier has the general steps to creating these and how they are applied. There are a few examples in the link, including one that use node depth (see item "Pump station operation (as in a SWMM4 Type5 pump)" in the Examples section).

SWMM Control Sets are only used with the Explicit solver, which you are already using in the example you sent us.

  • Thanks Scott,

I have managed to get it to works however it seems that with i am using "and", "or" on the condition and action, the software would not compute as it says "invalid" ......
