sewer

Hello,

I have two large sewer pipes (2000mm & 2200mm Dia.) that discharge flow to a large distribution chamber. Three pipes with different levels and diameters are going out from the distribution chamber. one of them to a pond while the other two pipes to a pumping station. how would this case be modeled using SewerCad?

  • Hello Maher,

    You can model your requirements in SewerCAD. You can connect your large diameter pipes (2000 and 2200 mm) to a Wet-well which can be modeled as a distribution chamber. From this you can have a separate pipe towards a Pond. I am assuming the two pipes going to the pumping station are the headers for two pumps. If that is not the case you can model two pipes which flow in the pumping station wet-well from which the pumps will lift.

    While designing this system, care should be taken that the invert levels for both incoming pipes and the exit pipe (to pond) should be maintained in such a way that gravity flow is possible.

    I am attaching a screenshot of a sample system prepared which will help you visualize how your network would look.

    Hope this helps.

    If it is not what you are looking for please elaborate on your problem.

  • Thanks Yashodhan,

    In my case, two gravity pipes are going out from the distribution chamber to the wet well of the pumping station. In reality, the manholes on the gravity pipes between the distribution chamber and the wet well are overflowing. I am unable to model two gravity pipes between the distribution chamber and the wet well. Any suggestions?

  • Hello Maher,

    When designing a network in SewerCAD, the model can have a single outfall and wet-well. The GVF-Convex numerical solver for SewerCAD analyses the network to check for multiple outfalls or wet-wells. You might be getting a notification during analysis; "Gravity sub-network has more than one outfall or wet-well".

    However you can model multiple outfalls and wet-wells in the Implicit Solver associated with SewerGEMS.

    Here is a relevant article which explains more about this;

    How to resolve the user notification: Gravity sub-network has more than one outfall or wet-well

    As a work-around to your current condition, you can model the distribution chamber as a manhole. If your distribution chamber is not of a storage type then modeling it as manhole is suitable as flows are only distributed at this point. If your distribution chamber is of a storage type, then you can directly connect the pumps from your pumping station to the wet-well via pressure pipes (as shown in the schematic I provided earlier).
