Constant WaterGEMS crashing

Anyone having issues with WaterGEMS V8i crashing when either adding a new scenario to a simple model, or when editing elements of a scenario?

Compacting databases or moving .wtglight files to a separate directory then re-inserting them is useless.   No help from Bentley.

  • Hi Lee, thanks for confirming. Thanks also for sending the two example models. I was able to reproduce the problem in those models, in the version you're using, and I was not able to reproduce the problem in the latest version.

    What is causing the crash?

It was a software defect in the older version related to the specific condition of editing unit demands followed by changing scenarios, and has since been fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience that this has caused, though upgrading will take care of it; see more here: Downloading Haestad / Hydraulics and Hydrology Software

If you are not able to upgrade at this time, (models saved in the newer version can't be opened by users on older versions), try making changes to your unit demands via the Unit Demand Control Center, located under the Tools menu. In my testing, I was not able to reproduce the crash using this method, in 08.11.06.113. See: Unit demand control center Vs. Demand control center

  • We are considering upgrading to the version 10.01.00.72.  What issues are we going to have with AutoCAD 2015 and MicroStation 08.11.09.x?

We have looked at the compatibility chart and it suggests that the new version may not work properly with these two software packages.

    Thanks.

  • That is correct - version 10.01.00.70 will integrate with MicroStation 08.11.09.xx, but will only integrate with AutoCAD 2017 and 2018.

What types of things do you do that require the use of WaterGEMS inside AutoCAD? Perhaps you can utilize functionality inside the Standalone environment instead? See: CAD Functionality in Standalone as an Alternative to AutoCAD or MicroStation Integration

Are you able to upgrade your AutoCAD version?

  • I typically prefer to use WaterGEMS with dxf files as using AutoCAD link is cumbersome, and a couple of the features (creating curved lines, etc. with mouse) don’t work within the AutoCAD version.  It is also cumbersome to create a useable 3D surface model for automatic elevation assignments.  We have found slight differences in elevation values between XML files, DTM files and DFX contour files.  Is this normal?

Is there a better printing capability in the new version?   The current version we have is difficult and cumbersome to print with.

We have not upgraded AutoCAD across the company platforms yet, but will do this year.  Let me look into this as a separate program on my computer.

    Thanks.

I assume you're referring to the Terrain Model feature. Yes - slight different are expected with different file formats, as the triangulation and interpolation methods will be different.

The printing dialog has not changed, and I am not aware of any particular issues with printing - have you tried printing to PDF if you're having difficulty printing to a physical printer? If you need to explore that further, please start a new thread (discussion) on the forum so we can troubleshoot.

Reporting has been improved in the CONNECT Edition, though; there is a new Custom Reports feature, for setting up standard report formats, and you would eventually print them or export to PDF.
