Time History Viewer Sorting

In HAMMER, the Time History window shows elements sorted by element ID number and not by label. It is really difficult to find out the desired element due to irregular sorting as shown in screenshot below :-

Is there any option to sort the pipes as per label ? Or otherwise, is there any option to select and right click on a pipe and see its time history graphs.

  • Hello Martin,

The list of time history report points is sorted by label, not ID. However, HAMMER results are located at pipe endpoints (two per pipe) so it uses a special format of pipe:node. For example P-982:J-1141 means the result at the endpoint of pipe P-982 adjacent to junction J-1141.

To make it easier to find the points you are interested in graphing, I strongly recommend limiting the amount of report points by way of the "report points" transient calculation option. Choose "Selected points", then pick only the nodes that you wish to graph. Then, click the single arrow button to add all adjacent pipe endpoints to the report collection. See:

How do you select only certain report points in the transient calculation options?

Recommended HAMMER Calculation Option Reporting Settings

After re-computing the model, it will be easier for you to find what you want in the dropdown in the time history tab of the transient results viewer.

Currently the Transient Results Viewer must be used to view transient results. The ability to access transient results from the main user interface (such as right click > Graph) is something we are looking into for a future release.

  • Hi Jesse,

As per the screenshot provided by me, HAMMER is showing following order of pipes :-

    P-982, P-726, P-722, P-632, P-324, P-108, P-633, P-733

It can be seen that above pipe labels are not in order. Please help.

  • Hello Martin,

Sorry for the confusion; I mis-read your initial post. The Transient Results Viewer does display the labels of the elements, but it is not sorted alphabetically by label. This feedback has been conveyed to our development team via Enhancement # 903576, which will be considered for a future version. I will open a Service Request on your behalf and link it to this enhancement request.

However, the suggestion in my previous reply still stands - you should limit the number of report points to just the places you want to graph, so that the sort order is not significant.
