I am working for Aramco projects. We have always an issue about the applicability of water gems V8i. Can someone confirm that water gems is already complying NFPA 13. Is there any evidence that we can share with our clients. Also NFPA 13 is for sprinkler system.Thanks
Also please note that we are using it outside for hydrants flow and residual pressure checking. We are not using it for the inside building for the sprinklers system
Hello,
The sprinkler calculations involved are based on fundamental hydraulics and are consistent with NFPA 13 Handbook.
However, WaterGEMS is a wholesome product and can provide with sound hydraulic solutions.
What are the guidelines you wish to follow? If you can provide details of this we can help you along these lines.
We do have an option of reporting as per NFPA standards which can be found in the following article;
Reporting Details of Fittings (Minor Losses) for Each Pipe
Refer the note on NFPA 13 Chapter 22.
Hope this helps.

Note that sprinkler systems are not the main intent of WaterCAD and WaterGEMS and as such, a dedicated sprinkler software may be more suitable.
What is the intent of water gems V8i then. This is suitable for fire main and hydrants or not. please confirm?
The main intent of WaterGEMS is water distribution and network analysis. Within this all the appurtenances such as valves, pumps, tanks, hydrants can be modeled as required. You can simulate fire flow analysis in WaterGEMS which use hydrants.
Please Refer the Quick Start Lessons for the example on Fire Flow Analysis. You can find the Quick Start Lessons under Help tab.

About WaterGEMS
The article is trying to convey that the hydraulic calculations can certainly be performed with fire mains and hydrants, but since WaterCAD and WaterGEMS are focused on water distribution systems, reporting capabilities are not set up to directly produce the format expected with standards like NFPA 13.
