unspecified Error in CivilStorm

Hi,

We've a small subdivision area that happens to receive flow from other external areas. Originally the model was built in StormCAD as those external areas were routed somewhere else and didn't interact with the new subdivision but later on got to have the flow routed through our area after the location of a retention pond was changed during land use planning.

The model was originally built and run in StormCAD as it met the requirements but then after the external catchments identified we opted for hydrodynamic in Civil Storm. To do so, we first added the external catchments to the StormCAD model and defined their parameters and ran the model to get some initial pipe sizing. We then opened the model in Civil Storm and defined the hyetograph, CN, and unit hydro-graph..etc and set up analysis mode using explicit engine.

We ran validation and it runs fine, but ran the model and it shows unspecified error messages. We're running CivilStorm 10.01.00.70 on Autodesk Civil 3D 2017.

when we open the model from the standalone interface it just crashes.

I tried exporting the model as a sub-model and importing it into a new empty model file and the model did complete the run.

What is happening?

  • model is uploaded for testing

  • Hello A,

Thanks for uploading the model files, there is data entry issue with the unit hydrograph method - SCS unit hydrograph.

If you go to Analysis>Alternatives>hydrology alternatives>Right clik on unit hydrograph method column>Global edit>change unit hydrograph method to Generic>again global edit and change it back to SCS unit hydrograph, then you should able to compute the model with no error.

  • Hi Sushma,

    First: yes, it did work!!

Second: since I am Trying to understand what went on rather than just compute the model: the values are already shown as SCS Unit Hydrograph? why would I do what you suggested (i.e change them to something else and back to what they were)? How did you discover it? Why exporting the model as sub-model did the job for me as highlighted by my question?

    Appreciated

  • Hello Ahmed,

When I computed the model or computed the hydrology only, model crashed indicating issues wiht SCS unit hydrograph in the error log. So i changed unit hydrograph method to generic then it worked, again changed back to SCS which worked.

Its unclear at the moment why submodel export works, I have created a defect for this # 911160, to be considered by development team, will update you further once I hear back.

  • Hello Ahmed,

Development had a chance to look at the model, this issue was caused by catchment CM-72, for which the enumeration is not initialized in the database.

By opening the FlexTable and scrolling it will force initialize and the calculation will work.

    • Open the catchments FlexTable.
    • Add the SCS Unit Hydrograph Method column if not already there
    • Scroll from the top to the bottom.
    • Compute Hydrology or do a full calculate and it will work.
