How can I relabel junctions according to their X or Y in XM version?

Hi dear friends

When I wanna relabel model junctions in watercad XM, I can not find the option of sorting them into their coordination (X or Y).

At previous versions of sewercad or watercad we could sort the manholes or nodes according to flow direction or even coordination. But, in new versions these options are missing.

These two options were very useful specially in modelling of transmission lines where you are dealing with a long piperout in certain direction.

Thanks for helps in advance.

  • Hello Zartosht,

Currently, the order used by the relabel feature is based on the element IDs. Please try the following workaround:

    1) Open the flextable for the nodal element type in question

    2) If you have an active filter or sort, reset it. (Right click column header > filter/Sort > Reset)

    3) Click the yellow edit button and add the "X" field to your available fields, if it is not already present.

    4) Click the Options button at the top of your flextable, choose Relabel, select Renumber and enter the prefix, suffix, increment, etc (based on how you'd like the new labels to appear)

    5) The Label column will now be in ascending order, with the new labels. Click the cell at the top of the label column (the first label) and drag down to the very bottom of the list, so that all labels are highlighted. Press CTRL+C to copy the data into clipboard.

    6) Sort the flextable based on the X field (right click column header > sort> ascending/descending)

    7) Click the cell at the top of the label column again and press CTRL+V - this will paste the labels in ascending order. They will now be in order, based on the X coordinates.

Note that if your version of WaterCAD is below 08.09.400.34, the 'X' field may not be available to add in your flextable. In this case I would recommend upgrading.

I hope this helps. If you have any problems or other technical questions, I'd recommend sending an email to Support@Bentley.com (be sure to include the program name/version and your contact information.)

  • Thanks Jesse Dringoli

It seems that I have to upgrade my version.

What about flextable for pipes? In the new version can we sort the pipes according to their start node's X or Y?

  • Zartosht,

Unfortunately you cannot. For a pipe, the coordinates of the end nodes are contained in a geometry "collection". A collection contains multiple items so you cannot sort by it in the flextable,

If this is a linear pipeline with steadily decreasing HGL, perhaps you could sort the pipe flextable based on "Hydraulic Grade (start)" and use the same process I described in my last post.

If you had previously relabeled the junctions in order of 'X' coordinate, then you could sort the pipe table based on Start node label.

    Jesse
