Extreme Flow factors in WATERGEMS

Hi, Water distribution scheme in my  project involves supplying of water to the consumer house hold fixtures through direct booster distribution system i.e., no water tanks inside the consumer plots(all 1568 no. off G+1 Villas). My question is, if watergems allows to model the network with different peak factors based on increasing population from the farthest end to the pump station like it allows in SEWERGEMS with extreme flow factors? Also, it should be noted that my network is not looped and has branches with dead ends. Appreciate any sort of advice.

  • Hello,

    The Extreme Flows Setup is used in SewerGEMS (specifically the GVF-Convex Solver) to setup decreasing peak factors for increasing population (as flow moves downstream). This functionality is not currently available in WaterGEMS.

    However, the "peak factor" for a demand in WaterGEMS depends on the consumption pattern at a node. In WaterGEMS the consumption pattern you specify for a node (with unit demand and population) will be fulfilled as long as sufficient head is available upstream. It should be noted that WaterGEMS is demand driven (and not supply driven as is the case with SewerGEMS). As long as sufficient head is maintained (either by pumping or reservoir or tank), the junction demands will be fulfilled.

    The Extreme Flow Factors are used to apply decreasing peak factors as contributory populations increase (as flow moves downstream) to an outfall. These can be used only for flow under gravity whereas the flow in pipes in WaterGEMS is full pipe flow (Q = A.V). In WaterGEMS the total demands at a particular time step will be calculated and the upstream pipe will have the same flow.

    You can try using the demand adjustments to apply peak factors (hourly, daily etc.). You can split your model into zones or sections moving upstream to downstream and apply decreasing peak factors to elements for those zones.

    Here is the reference article for this;

    Multiple Demand Adjustments

    Hope this helps,
