Maximum Spread

Hello all,

In my project maximum allowable spread is 9.5 ft and the calculated spread are little bit high. And as I know the spread is calculated at the upstream of inlet before any flow captured. But in reality the flow is continiously captured when it reaches to the inlet so can I allow to take  little bit higher spread value from stomCAD calculation to maintain 9.5ft spread limit? If I can take higher value to keep 9.5 ft limit than what will be the value?

Otherwise I have to add other additional inlets.

Please suggest.

  • If your allowable spread is 9.5 ft and the software predicts a catchbasin spread that is more than this, then you would consider that the spread is too high. As previously discussed (and seen in the link Yashodhan provided), the spread reported at the catchbasin is the spread upstream of the inlet, before any of it has been captured. Meaning, as flow enters the upstream gutter, the spread starts to increase as you move downstream, and the spread StormCAD reports is the spread at the downstream end, just before any of it gets captured. Here is the visual aid:
