Road layer in Pollylines type when importing in watergems shows polygon type.

I have this drawing in dfx having one layer (Road Centerline)  containing the network. Although, the network is drawn using pollyline  but when I import model builder showing Layar type as polygon.

I'm attaching the dfx file please provide the solution to this.

Thanks !

  • Hello Hola,

This may occur if a custom element or shape is included at the ends of the polylines in the CAD file. If the element is removed from the end of the line or polyline, the line element will be recognized correctly by ModelBuilder.

I imported dxf file in ArcMap and saw that there is a polygon in shapefile, as shown below.

So I exported only the polylines from ArcMap and then imported that dxf file in Modelbuilder, which built the model correctly with pipes.

Modified dxf file is attached herewith.

The below technote explains reason behind this, please go through it.

  • Hello,

I have taken a closer look at the DXF file and found that the polygon that shows up is due to a polygon in the DXF. The actual pipes are "2D Polylines" (which show as "Polyline Z" in ArcMap) which ModelBuilder does not support, hence they do not show up in the list of layers.

I believe Sushma's solution works because it converts these into simpler polyline elements. I have updated a few related Wiki articles. This is the one that I now believe is more relevant to this issue: DXF or DGN layers missing in ModelBuilder
