How to convert WaterCAD 6.5 to WaterGEMS Connect?

If possible I would like to convert WaterCAD 6.5 to WaterGEMS Connect.

I have the .mad, .mdk, .wcd files, but do not have access to older versions of the software.

As of now I received the following error message.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hello Lindsey,

The presence of the .MDK file indicates that this is a v6.5 or 7.0 model, but there would also need to be a .MDB file (which stores almost all of the model data). If you do not have that file, it is likely that it was blocked by security software or email filters when someone sent it to you. You will not be able to open the model without the .MDB. Once you have the MDB, select "database files" from the "file of type" dropdown in the file open dialog in WaterGEMS CONNECT Edition, then select that .MDB file. If you need the presentation settings (color coding and annotations primary) convert as well, you will need to first open the model in V7 (which cannot be installed on Windows 7 and greater) and export the Presentation Settings file. If this is important to you, you can send the model to technical support for conversion (again you will still need to find the .MDB file first): Sharing Hydraulic Model Files on the OpenFlows Forum

Regarding the error message about "untracked Bentley application" - this is a message from a third party software called SofTrack which your IT department may be using to attempt to regular license usage. You will need to contact your IT for help with this as it is not supported by Bentley. Based on the message, it looks like they will need to add the file Haestad.SQLiteConverter.exe to the list of Bentley applications that can be opened, as this is a separate executable file that needs to be used as part of the process of upgrading older model files.

Note that we are about to release a new version of WaterGEMS that will use an entirely new licensing method called CONNECT Licensing, which enables much greater control over license usage (so that you don't have to use things like "SoftTrack". You can see a preview here: Licensing OpenFlows | Hydraulics and Hydrology products - CONNECT Licensing

...and you can receive an alert when the new version is release by subscribing to our Blog or by monitoring the Updates section of the CONNECTION Client. See more: How to receive alerts on new version availability
