LONGEST PATH-SELECTION

Hello Everyone,

Can someone please guide me on how I can easily select the longest distance between two nodes/junctions?If there is a query formula that I have to come up with, please share.I can only see that option for tracing the shortest distance between two nodes at the navigator tool.

  • Mulongo Wafula,

You are correct that Network Navigator is a very useful tool with a number of built in queries that let a modeler see what is in a system and how everything is connected.  It can calculate the shortest distance between a start node and a stop node as described in this Wiki article..  To my knowledge, we have never had a request to find the longest distance between two nodes or junctions

Please tell us what you wish to gain by finding the longest distance between two nodes or junctions and we will offer suggestions that we believe will help you or we can file an enhancement request with Development.

    Thank-you,
    Larry

  • Hello Larry,

I have no difficulties in doing what you guys have just suggested only that if I have a large network the method is tiresome,Selecting the small portion of pipe remeining manually addit to my selection set has been tiresome

  • I have two pipelines connected from one tank to the other and my main aim is to easily select/trace both of them downstream so that I can create for them two different selection sets. The pipelines run parallel to each other and are close together, overlapping at many instances its hard to trace them manually

Are you wanting to select elements that connect between these two tanks, or do you want to select elements that are downstream of both of them? What will you do with this selection set? (getting back to the question of why do you need to do this)

Selecting the small portion of pipe remeining manually addit to my selection set has been tiresome

After running the appropriate Network Navigator query, choose the button to Select elements in the drawing , then right click in the drawing pane and choose "Create Selection Set". If you are wanting to run another query and add to that first selection set, you can again choose the button to select in drawing (after running the query), then right click in the drawing and choose to "add to selection set".

It might help to provide a series of screenshots, or share a copy of the model file itself with details on what specifically you are trying to do.

  • Jesse, I have done so. The inclusion of the longest path on the navigator tools will help and ease things
