Will deleting all of the support files that SewerGems creates in the main folder of your model harm/erase any of the data in the model, aside from imported background layers?
To clarify, if I delete everything but the stsw and stsw.sqlite files, will the model remain intact?
All of the hydraulic model data is stored in the .SQLITE file and the .STSW contains your visual/presentation settings such as color coding and annotation. So, yes, those two files alone would typically have all the information you need. If you have background layers, you would also want to retain those, along with the .DWH file.
The .BAK file is a backup of the last saved model state.
The other, output files store calculated results. if you wish to be able to see those results when opening the model, keep them. Otherwise if you delete/remove them, the model will need to be re-computed in order to see results.
If you are wanting to send a model to another user, I would recommend using the "save to package" option under the File menu in CONNECT Edition. This will package up the necessary files into a ZIP file which you can send. See more here: What files are needed to open a model in an OpenFlows product?
