Respected Team of Bentley,
I want know about surge analysis using water hammer software. can we get surge pressure in Water hammer software without any protection provided ? or else after getting the results of pipes and junctions we have to find out surge pressure using formula?
- Your sincerely,
Vidhi mehta
Hello Vidhi,
Using Hammer, you can first carry out the surge analysis without protection, which will give you idea where surge protection is needed based on results and using Transient Results Viewer animation you can decide the location of the device. You don't need to calculate the results manually here, Hammer will provide you the results about surges if any in the model.
Here is learning resource guide of Hammer, for your reference.

so, it means it will never go higher than highest junction pressure as I have seen in transient result viewer animation as per my model. Is this happen every time !?
And one more thing I want to know that if we want to calculate using formula Hs = a X v/g then how we can get answer of a (i.e. pressure wave velocity) in the software ? Do you know?

Can you elaborate on this query? The way I understand it is that the transient pressure is not exceeding than the "highest junction pressure". Transient pressures are generally produced in a system sue to some system event such as pump stop / power failure / sudden valve closure. Based on these events the transients produced are calculated.
See the below article to understand how to view and interpret results from the Transient Results Viewer;

There is a Wave Speed Calculator in HAMMER which does this. If you are interested in how the parameter "a" is calculated, see the below article;
Equation used in Wave Speed Calculator tool
Hope this helps.
