SewerGEMS - TREX with long forcemains

I have a client with miles and miles of forcemains that I'm modeling in Sewergems.  I have successfully loaded a dxf file with surface data which I use to update node elevations along the forcemains.  Is there a way to have the forcemains follow the terrain so it auto picks up high points for static head purposes?  I would expect the profile for each pipe to follow the terrain.  I can manually add nodes/air relief valves at high points, but am wanting a more automated way to handle this situation.  Any help or ideas?

  • Hello Will,

SewerGEMS, GVF- Convex solver, has automated design feature for gravity systems only ,for pressure system you would need to design it manually.

If you have WaterGEMS then you can design the pressure network in WaterGEMS using Darwin designer tool.

Will automated design change or size pressure elements, such as pressure pipes or pressure junctions?

For visualization of high points in pressure systems, you can use contours (View>Contours) which will help you with detecting high elevations in the model or you can use color coding for pressure junctions, to understand elevation differences.

  • Thanks for the input.  I have WaterGEMS but was hoping to keep my entire sewer model in SewerGEMS.  My client owns a private WWTP and we are continually analyzing additional subdivisions/phases/expansions.  That's a 2 part process in reviewing the gravity sewer capacity with additional development and then seeing how the wetwell/pump station and the forcemain can handle the development.  I was hoping to combine into 1.

I guess the easiest way to do it manually is to cut profiles for each forcemain in cad and note those high points.  Then I can "break" my forcemain lines at these points so when I re-import with model builder I have a Junction that I can assign the high point elevation correct?

    Thanks

  • Hello Will,

Your suggested workflow could work. I can also looking to adding a terrain model to the system.
