PSV setting

Hello

I have placed a PSV with known inlet setting is that input enough alone with it's elevation for correct results?

Thanks & Regards

  • Bushra,

I am having difficulty understanding what you are trying to do. Can you please explain in more detail? What product are you using? WaterGEMS? HAMMER?

In general, the inputs for a PSV are the elevation, and the desired pressure setting. You can also choose to specify the setting as a hydraulic grade, in which case the elevation property will not impact the hydraulic results (other than the reported pressure at the PSV). With that, during an EPS or steady state simulation, the PSV will monitor the upstream pressure or HGL and if it is below the setting, it will automatically throttle (close, and induce a headloss), until the upstream pressure or HGL rises to the desired setting. See more here: How does the Pressure Sustaining Valve (PSV) work in WaterGEMS and WaterCAD?

For HAMMER, the PSV will not throttle automatically during the transient simulation as explained here and here.
