Sediment Basin Design

Hello Bentley,

Is there any particular software to design sediment basin? Can I design sediment basin in pondpack?

Thanks,

  • Hi Hari,

Do you have any particular concern about modeling the sediment basin?

I believe this would be modeled as a normal pond element, configured to model the available storage (void space) in the sediment basin based on the current amount of sediment. You would probably have a small composite outlet structure set up to slowly release the water. You could use the Minimum Drain Time tool in PondPack to look at how long the pond would take to drain.

  • What kind of "sediment basin" are you working on.

    Are you designing a

    1. Detention basin that fills during wet weather to reduce and drains afterward to reduce peak downstream flow.

    2. Treatment process tank which is kept full of water and your provide adequate overflow rate and detention time.

You can use PondPack for the first case. For the second, you shouldn't need any modeling unless you want to get into Computational fluid dynamics which PondPack doesn't do.
