How do I import a DGN file with roadway geometry and proposed drainage structures into StormCad? I have Geopak V8i SS 4 and StormCAD V8i SS 5. I want StormCad to be able to automatically fill in the proposed pipe length and the rim elevation of the proposed drainage structures from the CADD file, instead of me having to manually input them in.
Thanks
Hello Larry,
In StormCAD stand alone version, you cannot import a DGN file but InRoads .sdb file.
However since you are using Geopak, you can integrate that license in StormCAD for Microstation, more information on it is provided below.
How does StormCAD integrate with InRoads, PowerCivil and GEOPAK?

Thanks for the reply. I followed the steps outlined here but I could not get the StormCAD menu to appear in the toolbar.
I added “-wsLoad_GEOPAK_SS4=1 in the stormcad properties, then ran the shortcut, then activated Geopak.
I have the standalone StormCad V8i SS5, and StormCAD V8i for MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 2), Geopak V8i SS4.
Could it be that the StormCAD V8i for MicroStation only works for SS2 and not SS4?
Thanks.
Hi Larry, are you using the GEOPAK drainage functionality in GEOPAK SS4, or are you using the subsurface utilities/SUDA hydraulic model? If the latter, see Sushma's reply regarding how you can open the DGN in SewerGEMS (or if you don't have SewerGEMS, send the DGN for us to open it) and then save to the StormCAD native file format.

Thanks, here is the DGN file. www.dropbox.com/.../N03N05_LIN-Drainage.dgn
There are no hydraulic elements in the dgn file that you uploaded, are you sure it is a SU - subsurface utilities model? Or the dgn file had SU elements present when opened in Geopak?
Hi,
No, the file is not a SU model. I didn't know that it needs to be a SU model. I don't think the subsurface utilities Engineering tool is even activated in Geopak.
I am not familiar with StormCAD, is there a way to incorporate StormCAD functionalities in Microstation, or vice versa? I have this DGN file here (that was not developed by me) with StormCAD elements drawn in, can you tell me how this was done?
Maybe I need to upgrade the StormCAD V8i for MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 2) to SS4 as my Geopak version is SS4?
You should be able to import the DGN file into StormCAD using ModelBuilder. If you have a CONNECT Edition release, the DGN file will be one of the options. If you have an older release, you can save the DGN as a DXF file and use that instead.
You can do this in StormCAD standalone or if you are using StormCAD in the MicroStation platform. ModelBuilder is available in both.
