WaterGEMS for Civil3d Removes the Ribbon or Does Not Load Correctly

Good morning brain trust!  Before and after the most recent update, I have been having issues with WaterGEMS for Civil3d not playing nice.  I have ruled out hardware issues as I have removed and replaced hardware and for the most part have ruled out the software for both as I completely removed both softwares from computer and did a clean install of each program.  After the initial run of WaterGEMS for Civil 3d (which worked fine), I am unable to get it to work correctly.  I get one of two issues:

1. I get the error messages to the point where it is in constant loop and have to task manager kill the Civil3d instance or

2. The ribbon is gone (both Civil3d and WaterGEMS) but it says WaterGEMs is loaded.

My typical workflow is that I use my coordinate system and aerial/topo in Civil3d to draw my water and sewer layouts then go back into the native Bentley programs to actually make adjustments and run my scenarios so I would like to keep this workflow if possible.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello,

Could you send us a dump file when the error messages occur. Here are the steps to do this:

With the error message still open,

    1) Run Windows Task Manager (press Ctrl-Shift-Esc or right click in the bar at the bottom of the screen and select “Start Task Manager”)

    2) In Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and right-click on the crashed process, such as watergems.exe

    3) Select Create Dump File

    4) Locate the file and compress it into a zip file before sending to technical support.

  • Even zipped it is 4GB.  Is that going to be an issue?

  • You may want to try using 7Zip to compress the file as it tends to compress better, but I do believe that 4 GB should still upload via Sharefile. Can you also provide a dump of the AutoCAD process?

The dump file contains the data in memory, so if the zipped dump file is 4 GB, that would seem to indicate that the process it taking up more than 4 GB of memory at the time. In the Windows Task Manager, can you confirm if watergems.exe and/or autocad.exe is taking up a large amount of memory? If so, do you have adequate free memory at the time, and are you using the 64-bit version of WaterGEMS for AutoCAD? Are you doing anything at the time that would warrant a large amount of memory usage? Normally I would suggest trying with a sample file if so but your previous posts seem to indicate that you do not even reach the point where a model is opened...?

I also noticed what appears to be German words in the screenshot of the AutoCAD command history - are you using a German version of AutoCAD? We do have a German version of WaterGEMS 10.02.02.06 but it was not released until October 18th.

Can you also confirm that you performed the Clean Reinstallation per the link Scott provided?

  • I am uploading as we speak.  The WaterGEMS was the largest and the error and dump files for Autocad are included as well and each time it wants to send an error report for the language pack.  Yes i noticed that too and questioned that initially but I have done clean installs of both three times and when i reported the issue I started having computer issues so needless to say i have a new SDD so both are clean installs on a vanilla Windows 10 platform.  Anytime I open WaterGEMS for Autocad I get german.  Nothing of WaterGEMS in the ribbon of AutoCAD or standalone is in German.  As far as I know I have both 32 and 64 installed.  No other process and I have plenty of ram.
