Maximum Gutter Depth Catch Basin Vs Gutter in Civil Storm

I am fairly new to Civil Storm with implicit solver and I received a model and was confused with the way it was set up esp. regarding the maximum gutter depth; in Gutter Properties it has Maximum Gutter Depth (ft) =0.5 and in Catch Basin properties it has Maximum Gutter Depth (ft) = 0.98, Can you tell me if that's correct ? if yes why is there differences ?

  • Hello Rajan,

The maximum gutter depth in the screenshot you provided are both user defined fields. These are not the actual calculated gutter depth. While it may make sense that you set the values for the maximum gutter depth to be the same, you may actually have different depths. One example of this is if there is a local depression at the catch basin. See this link for details: Why does the gutter need to be defined in both the catch basin and gutter element?

If the maximum gutter depth should be the same, I would recommend one of two things. You can either change the maximum gutter depth in one of the properties to match the other, or you can set the gutter property Gutter Type to either "Same as Start Node" or "Same as Stop Node" (depending on if the catch basin is the start or stop node for the gutter). If you use this setting, the gutter will simply use all of the same attributes as already entered for the catch basin.
