I can't choose a Local Storm Event at the properties catchment box dialog

I've entered the data for several IDF curves in the storm data editor but when i try to set up a Local Storm Event in the Rainfall section of the catchment properties dialog box it doesn't let me to choose one. When i click in the arrow for displaying the list of storm events, the IDF curves that i've entered don't show up and the option <Edit StormEventGroup> take me to a box dialog where i can see the IDF curves but can't select them neither

Does Anyone knows how can i make them show in the list? thanks

  • Hello Joswall,

In your screenshot of the catchment properties, I see you have it configured to use the Unit Hydrograph runoff method. IDF events can only be used with the Rational (for the GVF-Rational StormCAD solver) or Modified Rational runoff methods. This is why the IDF-based storms are not available as a local storm.

Furthermore, even if you set the catchment runoff method to Modified Rational (I assume you are using the Implicit or Explicit solver in SewerGEMS or CivilStorm) you will not be able to select a local storm event, as the local storm event option is not supported with the Rational Method (because that method is intended for small-scale study areas).

The above information can be found in the following related article in our Wiki: Using Local Storm Events to Model Multiple Storms in a Single Scenario

Note that if your storm applies to all catchments in the model, you would use the global storm events dialog instead of the local storm event property of the catchment.

If you are trying to use the Unit Hydrograph Runoff Method with an IDF-based Storm, you will need to first convert the storm to the time-depth or time-intensity type. See: How to apply rainfall depth using IDF curve data?
