Can 3d model generated from contextcapture be used in the openflow flood analysis

Dear guys,

I generated the 3mx model from contextcapture, can i import this model in openflow flood instead of raising building elevations ?

If i need to raise the building features, do you mean i need to digitize the buildings and output a shapefile in other platform so to be used in this procedure?

Thanks so much!

  • Hello Cherry,

    If you are using a ContextCapture file then, it may not be required to add building elevation data. As Douglas shared in his previous response in this thread, the document for best practice to acquire DSM data prepared by Bentley experts can guide you in this.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello Yashodhan,

    Thanks for replying me^^! Yes, i am using the same DSM data like i stated in the previous thread with Douglas. Do you mean i can simply add the DSM and orthophoto in the OpenFlow platform and generate the grid data. Then, i can directly undergo simulation? Since i don't have any information about the drainage system in the study area. Also, can this software determine the inundation area caused by the storm surge with different scenarios. As i want to simulate the flooded area with different water level based on the historical flood event in Hong Kong. Where i can add this query?

    Thanks so much!!! It means a lot for my FYP processing!

  • This is the current workplace i am working on. I only import the dsm and orthophoto and create the grid data.

  • Hello Cherry,

    If you have an existing piped underground stormwater drainage system in the area it would be beneficial to link it up with OpenFlows FLOOD. This would help you to build an Urban Flooding Study for flood simulation. This can show you how your manholes are getting flooded in a surcharged stormwater system. See the article below for details;

    Integrating SewerGEMS or CivilStorm with OpenFlows Flood for 2D simulations

    Let me know if this is not what you are looking for.

  • Dear Yashodhan;

    I am so sorry to raise so many questions. Actually I just wanna find out what is the inundation area in different flood event corresponding to the projected water level. E.g when the features are lower than or equal to the specific water level, it may regarded as potential flooded area. I did similar research in ArcMap before and it returned a 2d map for me as shown in below.

    But I wanna visualize the flooded area in 3d platform and display it in LumenRt with the use of context capture 3d mesh model. Can the OpenFlow Flood do such kind of analysis? If yes, can anyone give me some guidelines cos the OpenFlow quick start guidelines doesn't include the steps of storm surge processing. What i have for this study is the DSM, orthophoto and historical water level for different typhoon cyclones and the land use of the study area and 3d mesh model. I can't collect the pipe or sewage system data.  Thank you for your assistance!^^
