Unique Results in GA

Hello

Does several GA runs lead to an unique result? I mean if Darwin Calibrator or Scheduler runs several times, then the result essentially remains constant or maybe not?

  • Hello Ali,

That would depend on multiple factors.

For Darwin Calibrator are you observing this for a single optimization run or more than one?

What parameters you are changing while running calibrator or Scheduler, for which you are observing unique results?

Which version of WaterGEMS you are using?

Here is some information about generic algorithm parameters used in Darwin tools, for your reference.

  • Sushma

No. let me explain the question more.

Without any changes in parameters and variations, just running GA several times, will lead to an unique solution(s) or it may causes different solutions; since the base of GA is Try&Error not exact and direct mathematical calculations.

  • Ali,

The Genetic Algorithm results are deterministic and the same results will be produced every time, for the same set of design parameters. I added a few more notes about this to the wiki article that Sushma referenced, but: the "random seed" number can be used to generate varying results, but the same sequence is used to generate the randomization for a given "random seed" number. So, the results will be the same for a given "random seed" number. You can vary the number to see variation in the results.
