WaterGems Crashes when inserting a background layer

Hi, I am having a really hard time with WaterGems, every time I try to import a background layer the software crashes. I have peers that have done the same and theirs doesn't crash. I have also tried to reduce the resolution and that doesn't help either,  my peers sent me their files that have worked so that I can open it and the file opens but the background layer is not there. The specs on my computer should be able to handle this. I have been trying to figure this issue out for two days now and I can't get it to work. Please help.

  • Hello Valerie,

What version of WaterGEMS are you using? (File > Help > About) Can you provide a screenshot or a copy of the error details?

Typically issues with background layers are related to graphics hardware drivers. If this is happening with an image file, try toggling the "optimal image loading mode" and/or "use compression" check boxes in the background layer properties. If this does not help, try updating your video card drivers. If your computer has a discrete and cpu-onboard video hardware, check the settings of the discrete hardware to ensure that WaterGEMS is set to use it instead of the cpu-based hardware. You can read more about this in the following article from our wiki: Updating video drivers and troubleshooting video hardware issues
