Gravity lines flow rate - WaterGEMS

Dear Bentley Team,

Could we use WaterGEMS for gravity lines for calculating pressure drop, velocity, flow rate ?

If we need basis, where could we see, how software is calculating flow rate through the gravity pipeline as we know only pipe line size, elevation difference but velocity is unknown.

Thank you.

  • Hello,

WaterGEMS assumes the pipes are always full. If you wanted to model partially full pipes, a program like SewerGEMS would be a better option. See this link for details.

If you are modeling a system with no pumps, water in the system will move by gravity from a high hydraulic grade to a low hydraulic grade. If it is a closed system, flow will move from an elevated reservoir or tank to satisfy demands in the system. Flow, velocity, and pressure or headloss would be reported in the model elements.

    Regards,

    Scott
