Profile in CivilStorm

I have a network with 2 pipes directly on top of each other, both connected to the same structures at either end. When I create the profile, I can only ever select one pipe. I can't make a second profile and chose the other pipe. Is there a way to do this?

thanks

  • Hello Penny,

You can create profile of one pipe only when these pipes share same start and stop node, it is working as designed.Pipe link with smallest length out of two would be included in the profile.

Are you using both link elements as conduits for parallel pipes? Or one is conduit and other channel or gutter?

If both are conduits, then you could use multiple barrels option using number of barrels in conduit properties. Will dig into this internally and provide you more details soon.

  • hi Sushma, thanks for the response. the scenario is 2 conduits, located approximately 3' apart vertically. Is there no way to select which of the 2 conduits are displayed on the profile? Below is a snap shot of the profile i currently have. the pink arrows show 2 high level conduits. in the model there are also larger pipes at the invert levels of the lower system which i need to see on the profile. i do not need to see the upper pipes, i'd like to display them on another profile, but again, need to be able to select them.

    thanks

  • Hello Penny,

There profile is only along one path, which means that the profile will only include one of the parallel conduits. You would need to create two profiles to see the impact on both. I would imagine that if you are seeing water in the upper pipe, the lower one would be pressurized.

  • thanks Scott, I am trying to create a second profile, to show the other pipes, however civil storm does not appear to give me an option of which pipe (upper or lower) to include in the profile. It is automatically choosing the pipe and does not allow me change it. My question is how can I select which pipe I show in the profile when I can not select the lower pipe from the drawings because CivilStorm is automatically selecting the upper one, when I attempt to select the lower one?

Is there a way to create a profile by selecting conduits and manholes from a flex table or something like that, where i can control what is selected?

    Thanks

  • is it possible to create a profile from selection set?

  • Hello Penny,

If you create a profile by clicking the first and last node in the profile, CivilStorm will follow the shortest path. However, you can click on the elements along your path. In the example of the screenshot you provided, if you click on CB-4, then MH#12, then the lower conduit, then the last element in the profile, it should then include the lower conduit instead of the upper one.

    Scott

  • If a pipe is not visible to select during profile creation because it overlaps another, parallel pipe, you could insert a bend by right clicking in the middle of the pipe, choose Bend > add bend. Then, drag the bend slightly to the side so that both parallel pipes are visible and can be selected individually.
