HAMMER Printing Transient Results Viewer Not Working

Hello,

Every time I click on print preview (scaled) in transient results viewer, I just get a blank sheet.  The scenario is computed.  What's going on here?  Please help.

  • Hi Youssef, the "scaled" print preview option uses the scale set in Settings > Profile Options > Scale. It could be that the scale is set such that the model does not appear on the page (either too tiny to be seen, or so large that nothing shows on the first page).

    1. Are you seeing only one page, or many?
    2. Have you tried changing the scale to see the impact?
    3. Does this happen in a sample model (in the "Samples" folder within the HAMMER installation folder). I tested this with a sample model and it worked OK for me.
    4. Have you tried the "fit to page" option?

  • Hi Jesse,

Interesting, thank you for clarifying.  This seems to only be an issue with profiles under transient results viewer.  Time histories and extended node data seem to be working fine.

Are you seeing only one page, or many?

I am only seeing one page, which has the profile name, header, footer, etc, but not the actual graph.  I was trying to attach a screenshot but my computer is not doing well today.

Have you tried changing the scale to see the impact?

I just tried scaling it down to 5 and then increased it to 1000.  The graph is still not appearing for me.

Yes, I just tried with Hydropneumatic_Tank_Example.wtg and it is still not working.

Have you tried the "fit to page" option?

I just did and it is still not working for profiles.

Exporting to excel or DXF is nice but a little time consuming.  Taking screenshots are ok.  Are there other options?

  • Youssef, I see a blank single page if I try the "fit to page" in the profiles part of the transient results viewer with the hydropneumatic tank sample model (and will look into that), but the "scaled" print preview works for me. I had my scale set to:

    Horizontal: 1 cm = 200 m
    Vertical: 1 cm = 50 m

You said that you tried scales between 5 and 1000, but what units? Can you try the above and check the result? Also, try changing your default printer in the Windows control panel (for example a PDF driver), restart HAMMER and try again.

  • That sounds good, please keep me posted.  I changed my default printer to bluebeam PDF, restarted HAMMER then tried with your scale and the graph partly appeared (see attached screenshot).

Out of curiosity, under transient results viewer -> profile -> chart options -> scale, does the "use automatic scaling" impact page size and presence of white space?  Is setting the scale manually recommended before printing or it simply a personal preference?

  • Are you wanting to print the profile to one page? If so, the fit-to-page option need to be fixed (likely in the next release - currently discussing with our developers). The fact that the issue is sensitive to the printer driver seems to point to a possible issue with the printer or driver version. It is odd that it only partially shows for the PDF driver. You may want to try updating the drivers for both and see if that has an impact.

That impacts the size of the profile in the "Scaled" print preview - it will respect the vertical and horizontal plot scale as you enter it. The "automatic" scaling option attempts to find a good balance but you can customize it if desired (for example if looking to plot to a specific scale). If you just want to print the profile to one page, the fit-to-page option is the way to go.

A workaround for now is to export to DXF or take a screenshot.

  • Hi Jesse,

Yes, my intent was to print the graph on a single 8.5x11 letter sheet (fit to page).  Great tips, thank you, I will try update my PDF driver and will see what ends up happening.

Thank you for clarifying, I have been exporting as a workaround, which has taken more time, but it's ok for now.  Hopefully this gets resolved soon.
