Modeling Parallel pipe lines in a gravity network

Hi,

I have a situation where I have to design a gravity network such that I have to utilize the existing pipe in a given network. How to design a parallel pipe in a gravity distribution network. Suppose, the existing pipe has a dia of 100 mm and would like to keep the existing pipe and add another pipe of 150 mm diameter as a parallel pipe. How to set the flow in each pipe?

  • Hi,

What product are you using? WaterGEMS? WaterCAD?

WaterGEMS / WaterCAD works with a demand driven approach i.e. you have to enter the demands or water requirements at the nodes and provide connections between them through pipes. In your case, as Tom suggested, you just add the 150 mm diameter pipe in parallel to the 100 mm diameter pipe and WaterGEMS / WaterCAD will compute the flow and velocity through it based on your demand downstream.

Based on the results generated you can increase or decrease the pipe diameter.

  • Yo don't need to set the flow in each pie. That's what the model does for you.
