Hi,
Is it possible to automatically size trapezoidal open drains with invert levels, just like we do for conduits in SewerGEMS.
As of now I am running automated design with box conduits and once I am happy with the levels and hydraulics , I lock the design and change the box conduit to a trapezoidal section by user defined parameters.
Is there a better way to size trapezoidal open drains automatically, if so please let me know
Also I heard that this automated trapezoidal open drain sizing can be done by using gutter element and catch basin, though I am not sure if that is true because I cannot see any invert level details in gutter element

There are only certain conduit shapes i.e. shapes which are closed, these can be automatically designed using conduit catalog. The workaround you are using currently i.e. lock the design and change the box conduit to a trapezoidal section by user defined parameters is the correct way to do it.

Can automated design size open channels?
Gutters elements cannot designed using automated design option, you need to enter sizes in cross section elements and then analyze model for those sizes.

which software required for designing of trapezoidal open storm drains
As mentioned in above reply storm water products can be used to analyze the trapezoidal sections, however you cannot design them automatically yet e.g. like box conduits. You can use StormCAD for trapezoidal sections using the workaround mentioned by you above.
