Question

trying to open a stormcad 5.6 file in Stormcad Connect. I get the following error.

It looks like you're using an older version of CONNECT Edition, 10.00.00.45. 
 I located a copy of the same version you have and I actually see the same issue when I try to open the 32- bit version. It is possible that there was an issue with that particular version, or some conflict with a newer Windows component. I then tried it with a newer version of StormCAD, 10.02.01.06 and I was able to open the 32-bit version without a problem. 
 Is 10.00.00.45 the version that the client has? If the client is using a newer version, it would be best to upgrade and then convert the model with the newer version (in 32-bit mode). It will be especially important to eventually use version 10.02.XX.XX or greater due to the updated licensing that it uses, as seen here: Important License Update for OpenFlows Users

Hello, 
 Which version of StormCAD CONNECT Edition are you running currently? Please ensure that the old StormCAD 5.6 file (.STM) is from StormCAD and not another application like WinStorm. If its a WinStorm .STM file, see the below article for details on opening it; 
 Opening a WinStorm .STM file 
 If its a StormCAD 5.6 .STM file, then try opening it in the 32-bit version of the current StormCAD CONNECT Edition. You can find this by going to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\StormCAD" and double-clicking on the StormCAD.exe file. See if that helps.

When a model is saved, it is not saved for a particular "bitness". Once you save the model in the new version, it can be opened in either the 32-bit or 64-bit version. There is a note about this in the article that Yashodhan had shared: 
 "Once the model file is saved in the current format, you will be able to work on the file in either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version."

Once you open and save the model in StormCAD CONNECT Edition, you can work on it there, produce the reports, and send the model back to the user (it will be in CONNECT Edition format). You may want to ask the client if they have a specific version of CONNECT Edition, as the products are not forward compatible. Meaning, if for example you opened and saved the model in the latest CONNECT Edition version 10.03.01.08, it cannot be opened in CONNECT Edition 10.02.XX.XX, 10.01.XX.XX or 10.00.XX.XX. When we referred to the "32-bit version", we are referring to the 32-bit version of StormCAD CONNECT Edition. If you are seeing 5.6 open up, then you have not opened the 32-bit version of StormCAD CONNECT Edition. As seen in the article, this is the file called stormcad.exe located in the root installation folder, typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\StormCAD\ 
 
 It is possible that you attempted to open the "stmc.exe" file within the "StormCADImport" subfolder, which is indeed a copy of V5.6, but that is present because the CONNECT Edition needs to utilize it in order to perform the import (upgrade to CONNECT Edition). 
 Once you open the 32-bit version of StormCAD CONNECT Edition (StormCAD.exe as seen in the screenshot above), it should open the model in the CONNECT Edition. You can then save the model and send it back to the user and they will be able to open it in either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of StormCAD CONNECT Edition, as long as their CONNECT Edition version number is greater than or equal to the one you are using (as seen in the other article provided above). 
 If you need further help, please let us know the exact version number of StormCAD CONNECT Edition that the client needs the model delivered in (they can go to File > Help > About) and provide a copy of the .STM file for us to convert: Sharing Hydraulic Model Files on the OpenFlows Forum

Hi, please confirm that you are indeed in the 32-bit version by going to File > Help > About. In the corner you should see "32-bit". If it still shows "64-bit", ensure that you open the stormcad.exe file located in the root installation folder (and not the one in the "x64" subfolder). 
 If you can confirm that you are indeed in the 32-bit version, please provide a copy of the .STM file so that we can attempt the conversion: Sharing Hydraulic Model Files on the OpenFlows Forum

Hello, 
 I checked your model file and was able to open in StormCAD 10.03.01.08 32-bit version, save it and reopen it in 64-bit version. No errors received during conversion. You can download the same here - StormCAD v10.03.01.08 Model . 
 Was able to do the same in StormCAD 10.01.01.04. You can download the converted model here - StormCAD v10.01.01.04 Model 
 The snapshot you shared in the earlier version is not visible clearly specifically the error message. If possible share the enhanced snapshot of the same. 
 However, since I was not able to reproduce the issue on my side, I would recommend you perform a clean uninstall and reinstallation of StormCAD. See the below article for details on this;

 Also, it is advised that version compatibility be maintained with the installations of StormCAD on your and your Client's side. This is because our products are not forward compatible. Meaning, you cannot open a model saved in a newer version (like 10.03.01.08) into an older version (like 10.01.01.04). See more details here - Model backward / forward compatibility
