Pumps in parralel

I am using Watergems V8i. I am trying to model a pump station with 2 pumps in parallel. I set the pumps up in parallel, o.r. by just making them have a common node on either side of the pumps. The pump curve is as follow:

I modeled a sudden pump shut-down and the resulting pressure profile is as following:

As show in the figure above the maximum transient pressure profile (red curve) is almost superimposed to the steady state pressure profile ( green curve). I think the resulted pressure profile for pumpshutdown doesn't not reflect the reality.

Any thought or recommendation to optimize the model ?

Thank you in advanced

Kind Regards.

  • Hi Abderahmen,

You mentioned WaterGEMS but a transient simulation can only be performed in HAMMER, so I assume you are using HAMMER. I also see you mentioned V8i - please be sure to upgrade to the CONNECT Edition to maintain support per our Support Policy. Also see this article (and short video) regarding licensing and other benefits.

Regarding the problem with the transient pressures - there are a number of possible causes, such as the simulation duration being too short or a problem with the configuration of the shutdown. First I would recommend animating the profile path to get a better understanding of the results, then carefully check the pump shutdown configuration. Review the information in this article about pump shutdown modeling.

If this does not help, please provide a copy of the model for review: Sharing Hydraulic Model Files on the OpenFlows Forum
