DRAINAGE & UTILITIES, MODEL BUILDER

Hi

Im using OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition - 2020 Release 3

Please may I ask for assistance on the data I need to input to get model builder to run.

This is how my conduit data is structured. Is that the correct format of coordinates?

All help resources don't specify what exactly the model builder looks for in order to place elements.

These are Fields.

I assume "Start and Stop" is for coordinates.

Feature definitions

End node error. However, Bentley Community mentions , "creating a node in the source file is not expressly required"

  • Hello Tsholofelo,

The workflow will be slightly different if you are using an Excel file as the source file, as you appear to be doing. If you were to use something like a shapefile as the source file for ModelBuilder, you would not necessarily need to have nodes in the model. Instead, ModelBuilder will automatically add nodes (manholes in the case of conduits) when the pipes are imported into the system.

Since you are using an Excel file, you would need to include nodes in the Excel file. The nodes would also need to have X and Y coordinate information. Unlike a shapefile, an Excel file has no spatial reference. This is mentioned in the "Specify field mappings" section of the ModelBuilder wiki.

If you have an Excel worksheet that includes node labels and X:Y coordinates, I would add these to the model first. At a minimum, the node data would like something like this:

In the field mapping section of ModelBuilder, you would set the Key Field as the label and set the X and Y fields as well:

For the conduit data, you would set the Key Field as the conduit label and set the Start and Stop node as the label for the nodes each conduit is attached to:

You would need to define the start and stop nodes for the conduit so that ModelBuilder knows where to put the pipes. Again, this is because there is no spatial data associated with the spreadsheet (even if it is defined in a column in the file).

    Scott

  • Hello Scott,

Thank you very much for the assistance, really appreciate the effort.

I formatted my workbook sheets to mirror yours and still no avail.

The screenshots below describe the process.

Not sure where it goes wrong. Im still trying to debug from my end.

    Worksheets

Initially I added just the Manholes to model.

And then attempted the manholes & Conduits.

    Still got an error.

"Create nodes if non found at pipe endpoint"

Initially left it unticked, then ticked.

    Still got an error.

Gave the manhole a feature definition

Missifng endnotes error and nothing added to hydraulic model.

  • Hello Tsholofalo,

The screenshot showing the information for the manholes appears to have a duplicate. I'm not sure that should make a different, but make sure that there are no duplicate labels.

If that doesn't help, we may need to see a copy of what you are working with.

    Regards,

    Scott

  • Hello Tsholofalo,

In addition, check if there are existing elements in the model you are importing the Excel data into. If so, the error message may be related to that, and you can use Network Navigator to look for elements with missing end nodes.

    Regards,

    Scott

  • You're a star!

I ran model builder in a new empty dgn and the manholes were placed without err using the excel templates above.
