Hi!
I have several .srw files received from client that I can't open. I have seen this topic in several discussions but couldn't really find the solution. The message I am getting is the following "Database format not recognized or read-only. It could not be opened." This shouldn't be a problem of corrupted files as the same message appears for all the .srw files. Can someone help me?
Thanks
Hello Lisa,
SewerGEMS / SewerCAD > Open existing file > locate the folder location, from that select the .swr file then you should be able to open it.
See below wiki for details on this.
Opening old StormCAD .STM or SewerCAD .SWR files
If this doesn't help then if required you may upload model files for our testing.
Sharing model files.

Dear Sushma,
Thank you for your quick reply.
Before I posted I tried opening the files according to the way you mentioned and, as I mentioned in my post above, the message that I get is the following: "Database format not recognized or read-only. It could not be opened."
I am attaching one of the files for your review.
Thanks,Lisacontract 1.7z
Hi Lisa,
I'm seeing the same error as you when I try to open your model so I've sent it to Development for analysis.
I'll respond back here when I get their response.
Thank-you,Larry
Lisa, I was able to open your .SWR file without a problem in the latest version of SewerCAD (10.03.02.04). Are you using SewerCAD or SewerGEMS? Which version? (check under File > Help > About).
The following article has some tips for how you can open a .SWR if you encounter the "database format not recognized" error: Opening old StormCAD .STM or SewerCAD .SWR files
I am also attaching a zipped copy of the model. You will need either SewerCAD or SewerGEMS 10.03.02.04 in order to open it. If needed, instructions for upgrading are here: Downloading OpenFlows Software
If you are not able to upgrade, let me know what version you need it saved in.

Hi Jesse,
Thanks for your message. Before I contacted Bentley I made sure I had the last version of SewerGEMS installed. Please see the screenshot below.
I also went previously through the post you mentioned above and the only thing that I found that could be causing the error is that I have the 64bit version installed. Would the 32bit version do the trick?
Thanks, Lisa
Have you tried opening the files Jesse shared in the above post? Are you still not able to open them?

Yes. If there are problems, try first opening the files in the 32-bit version of SewerGEMS. You can access the 32-bit version at C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\SewerGEMS as "SewerGEMS.exe". Launch the 32-bit version and try opening the converted files Jesse shared. See if you face any issues in accessing them.
If you see some kind of error message when opening the files, please share a screenshot of the same.

Thanks Joshi.
I was able to open some of the files using the 32-bit version however it takes a very long time to open them (3/4 min to open a 3,500 KB file). Also, when opened, the file name is changed to "Untitled1.stsw".
Once opened I can "save as" and from then on I can open them in the 64-bit version.
Is there any way to convert these files to the 64-bit version without having to open them in the 32-bit version (that takes forever to open)? What I am looking for is a way of opening the files in the 64-bit version directly.
For some of the files (including the one I have sent you) I am getting the following message in the 32-bit version:
Could you please advise on what can I do to be able to open these files?
Thanks,
Lisa
