.srw files not opening

Hi!

I have several .srw files received from client that I can't open. I have seen this topic in several discussions but couldn't really find the solution. The message I am getting is the following "Database format not recognized or read-only. It could not be opened." This shouldn't be a problem of corrupted files as the same message appears for all the .srw files. Can someone help me?

Thanks

  • Hello Lisa,

SewerGEMS / SewerCAD > Open existing file > locate the folder location, from that select the .swr file then you should be able to open it.

See below wiki for details on this.

Opening old StormCAD .STM or SewerCAD .SWR files

If this doesn't help then if required you may upload model files for our testing.

    Sharing model files.

  • Dear Sushma,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Before I posted I tried opening the files according to the way you mentioned and, as I mentioned in my post above, the message that I get is the following:  "Database format not recognized or read-only. It could not be opened."

I am attaching one of the files for your review.

    Thanks,Lisacontract 1.7z

  • Hi Lisa,

Just to clarify - there was a converted model attached to my previous reply, based on what you had sent us. It sounds like you actually have more models to convert? If so, you can send them in one zip file and I will convert them (assuming there is a reasonable number to convert). Use the secure upload method described here if the ZIP is too large to attach directly to your reply.

I am not certain why some users need to use the 32-bit version to convert these old models. It is possible that reinstalling the software may help.

Also, when opened, the file name is changed to "Untitled1.stsw".

Once opened I can "save as" and from then on I can open them in the 64-bit version.

This is expected - since the new version uses a different file format, you must re-save in the new version, choosing a desired file name.

  • Hi Jesse!

Yes, I saw the file attached to your post and I was able to open it with the 64-bit version of SewerGEMS (10.03.02.04). However, the original one I received from client (the one I sent you initially) cannot be opened with the 32-bit version of SewerGEMS therefore I can only open that file because you converted it for me.

I just finished installing SewerCAD (10.03.02.04) and I can't open any of the files (with the 64-bit version - exactly the same as with SewerGEMS 64-bit version).

With the 32-bit version of SewerCAD I can open some files - same files as with SewerGEMS 32-bit option. This to say that SewerGEMS do the same job as SewerCAD, only the 32-bit version is opening the files however, it doesn't work for all the files (the file I sent you can't still be opened).

The files that can't be opened with the 32-bit versions of SewerCAD/GEMS show the below message:

I also re-installed SewerGEMS - still the same issues persist.

I have a lot of files to open yes - 50+ files. It would be definitely preferable to find a way to sort out this issue.

I would like to re-ask my question - since it takes 4 minutes or more to open a model with the 32-bit version of SewerGEMS, would it be possible to have all the files converted to the 64-bit of SewerGEMS so I can open and check them quickly?

    Thanks,

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I am not sure why you are seeing the difference in behavior between the 32 and 64-bit versions or why some won't open at all, or why some take a long time to open. When opening a .SWR file, SewerCAD will use the files in the following folder to perform the conversion:

    32-bit version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\SewerCAD\SewerCADImport
    64-bit version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\SewerCAD\x64\SewerCADImport

Please check to see if you have files in these folders - there should be about 86 items in each. If the folder is missing or the count is different, it is possible that your computer is blocking these from being installed. This could be due to security or antivirus software that you have running. In particular, check if the file called SWRCsys.exe is present, as that is most likely to be blocked. If you find that this is the case, you may need to consult with your IT/Helpdesk to place an exception for these folders, or temporarily disable the offending software while you reinstall SewerCAD to reinstate these files.

Also, ensure that you open SewerCAD (or SewerGEMS) by right clicking on the shortcut and choosing "Run as Administrator". It is possible that permissions may be related if the software is not opened with full rights.

If this does not help, please do provide the 50 model files for conversion while we continue to troubleshoot this.

  • Hi Jesse,

I confirmed what you have mentioned and all is as per your instructions (86 files including the SWRCsys.exe for the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions). Running as Administrator also results in absolutely the same outcome.

I will send you all the files for conversion but uploading them here will be difficult. Can I have an email contact to where I can send a wetransfer link with the files?

    My e-mail is lisadias@jacobs.com.

    Thanks,

    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

We will create a service request and contact you over email, with link to upload model files.
