WaterGEMS Skelebrator makes Permanent Changes to Model File/Data?

Hi All,

I'm inquiring if WaterGEMS Skelebrator module permanently simplifies the model? Based on the tech manual, it was recommended to backup the file, which I inferred as the skelebrator makes permanent changes.

If I create a model with many details (e.g. service lines to homes) for GIS integration purpose, would it be possible for me to save-as the file, simplify the model with the skelebrator for analysis purposes, and have a waterCAD user be able to see and run the simplified model?

My concern is if the skelebrator does not make permanent changes and the WaterCAD user receives the fully detailed model. If the WaterCAD user received the fully detailed model, it would require further work by the waterCAD user to simplify the model for analysis purpose.

Thanks,

WS

  • Hello,

Yes. Changes made by the Skelebrator tool are permanent. There is also a prompt which warns that you cannot go back to the original model after skelebration is run. That is why it is advisable to backup the model first and then run Skelebrator.

Using "Save As" will allow you to keep a copy of the original model which is essentially a backup. After this if you want to refer the original model for some reason you can have a copy with you.

See this article for using the Skelebrator tool: How can I reduce the number of pipes in my model?

    Hope this helps.
