StormCAD - Set up a dummy gutter to collect bypass flow from upstream inlet even though the gutter is not existed in real world

StormCAD - We have a grate inlet in the alley to receive the runoff, and the bypass runoff that the grate inlet is failed to intercept will go onto the roadway and collected by curb inlet.

SHOULD I set up a dummy gutter from grate inlet to ensure the curb inlet collects the bypass flow from the grate inlet? Please note that this gutter will not exist in the real world. I want to set it up just to ensure the curb inlet can collect the bypass flow.

Thanks!

  • Hello Zhen,

Yes, if I understand your request, it sounds reasonable. The only way to direct bypass flow from a catchbasin to another element is to use a gutter. The gutter flow will approach the inlet of the next downstream catchbasin (your curb inlet). This will not model any attenuation of the flow that would happen between the grate and the curb inlet. If you do not do this, then the bypass from the on-grade grate inlet will be directed to the subnetwork outfall as explained here.
